Football

Football, commonly referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net using primarily the feet. Football is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, which is typically 100 to 110 meters long and 64 to 75 meters wide, with a goal at each end.

The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). A standard match lasts for 90 minutes, divided into two halves of 45 minutes each, with a 15-minute halftime interval. In case of a tie in certain competitions, extra time or a penalty shootout may be used to determine the winner.

Football is one of the most popular sports globally, with millions of players and fans. Major championships include domestic leagues, such as the English Premier League and La Liga, and international tournaments, such as the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship. The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skill, making it not only a physical but also an intellectually engaging game.
