Soccer

Soccer, also known as football in most countries outside North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net, primarily using feet, but players can also use their heads and torso to control the ball. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Soccer is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). Matches typically consist of two halves of 45 minutes each, with the team that scores the most goals declared the winner. If the match ends in a tie in some competitions, extra time or penalty shootouts may occur to determine the winner.

Soccer is widely regarded as the world’s most popular sport, with millions of players and fans globally, and it is played at both amateur and professional levels. Major international tournaments, such as the FIFA World Cup, along with league competitions around the world, contribute to its prominence and cultural significance.
